I bought this knowing 720p wasnt the best but everyone ranted about how good it was anyway. Well after installing and connecting to my components i was amazed at its picture. I saw the info box in the upper left and it says regularly, 1920×1080 I believe and other times its 720 measurrements, depents on what station I am on with my satellite. but it always matches the Satellite output. So how can this be a 720p tv when it is outputting 1080? I have had many friends come over and they saw this is as good or better than their legit 1080 tv. I feel I got the wrong one by mistake, but I checked the box and paperwork, no its this one, the 720p model. If anyone can explain please do!
Anyway, I totally love this TV and its features! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!

The TV was carefully delivered and brought all the way into the house. Set up is easy and the picture is awesome! The sound is very good. The sports channels feel like you are at the stadium. Recommend to everyone that you treat yourself and buy this product! We now watch way too much television! Thanks Samsung!

I was a bit skeptical about buying plasma and 720p. However, after watching this TV for a month, the picture is fantastic. The 50-inch screen is very nice and the color and resolution of the screen is excellent. For the price, this TV is an excellent buy. Samsung makes excellent TVs.

This is my first review on Amazon, I’m a Prime user and have been with Amazon since basically day one. That says a lot about this product.
Recently my Sony Wega decided to melt on me, after ten years of being the primary television in the house. I loved that set, and was sorry to see it go.
After a ton of research on a replacement, and expecting to spend at least $1200, I came across this set and it stopped me in my tracks. The cost per inch grabbed my attention at first on Amazon, along with the free shipping and zero sales tax to Florida. I noticed that the local big box had one in stock so I went to take a look, and I wasn’t disappointed. That being said I don’t believe the big box shops run full 1080p through their sets so mostly you will not notice the difference between a 720 or 1080 set. I was having a really hard time justifying spending anymore that $799 at this point, and something would have to blow me away in order to pass on this tv. Nothing did, so I picked it up.
Overall, impressed. I have a PS3 running through HDMI (.99 cents on Amazon… don’t pay more for the hype), satellite tv via HDMI and I run my laptop through it occasionally. The picture is outstanding though it will take some tinkering and breaking in. Sports, video games, movies, HD tv shows, all amazing. The deep colors and true black of the plamsa is far and away better than lcd. I’m sure my next set will be an LCD or OLED, but for now the plasma is far from obsolete.
The tv does say that it’s displaying at 1080i and 1080p when the source is higher than 720. I’m not sure if this is the case, or if it is just stating what the source resolution is… but I feel like the picture quality is much better when it states the resolution is 1080. Who knows, maybe you do get a lot more tv for the money.
Currently I have no complaints. Get a good stereo or surround receiver and speakers… tv speakers suck, plain and simple. That’s not a complaint, but a reality.
The tv looks great, it does have a VERY slight touch of color, but not as red as the others.
To sum it up, you can’t beat the size and quality for $799. The price has allowed me to upgrade speaker and pick up a smaller LCD for the bedroom.

I have owned it two months. Great picture. However after a few weeks I noticed a bright green dot that would appear. Not large but very bright and it flickers, sort of like saying, look at me, look at me! Extremely distracting because the rest of the picture is perfect. I thought, no problem, I have a one year warranty so maybe I should wait to see if it goes away. It did not, just got worse. So I called Samsung and worked my way through the menu system. After I explained the problem, the sympathetic person assured me that this would be repaired, but then transferred me to another person to whom I had to explain everything again. So these people told me that they would contact my local Samsung repair center and that I would get a call from the service center to set up a time for the repair. But the next day I received two calls, one from Samsung technical service, and one for AT&T technical services or something like that. After being on the phone with AT&T for 40 minutes they explained that a few bad pixels are considered normal and Samsung would not repair the TV. But they are VERY sorry. I waited a few weeks while the dot got brighter and then called Samsung again. Oh, they just didn’t understand why this was not repaired and I made them repeat to me that I would NOT get a call from AT&T or some other third party. Oh no, they were going to contact the my local repair facility personally and get the TV fixed immediately. I could expect a call the next day. Well, do I need to tell you who really called? Yes AT&T and Samsung technical department. AT&T asked me to tell them what the problem was, and I told him he was looking at my information on his computer screen and I didn’t feel like taking another 40 minutes to explain it again. So after a few minutes he transferred me to the ECR department. (EXECUTIVE Customer bla, bla, bla Dept.)The Executive part is suppose to be impressing you. Now he is sympathetic and assures me that it will be repaired, yes it will, absolutely! I made him say it ten different ways, yes it will be fixed, BUT then he said, Samsung does have a pixel policy. Really! I never agreed to any special policy regarding bad pixels. I only know that I have a defective TV and a one year warranty. Well for now that is where it stands. All I am saying is be very cautious when buying a flat screen and look for a zero defect warranty and a long return policy so you can do an exchange or refund. Good Luck
