 "OK for occasional use" 2009-12-08
By R. Seale (TX)
This tuner is good for one thing, over-the-air digital/HDTV. Since it’s a hybrid, it should also work with analog TV , like standard cable, but it doesn’t. And it doesn’t work for digital cable (clearQAM).

It seems to take two installs of the drivers to actually get them to load. If you haven’t messed with drivers before, I would suggest getting a different tuner. The install CD is one of the small discs, so if you have a slide-in CD reader, it might not work for you.

The included application is poor, but for occasional recordings or live viewings it’s OK. The included antenna will only pull in very strong signals, so most people will need at least a decent indoor antenna to get all their local stations.

The included remote will work from about 4 to 5 feet and only if you are using the included application. The remote won’t work with Microsoft Media Center.

On the positive side it does a good job pulling in all the local digital/HD stations when connected to a decent antenna. It works with XP, Vista, and Windows 7, both 32 & 64 bit.

Bottom line, it’s a decent low-cost choice for occasion OTA PC viewing, but don’t build your Media Center around it. Note that the actual shipped device looks like the more expensive Sabrent TV-HDDG Platinum tuner, not the one pictured here.

To see some of my other digital tuner reviews, Google "hdtv tuner" and click on I’m Feeling Lucky.

"Worked for me–on underpowered computers" 2009-11-02
By Q1 user (USA)
Bottom line: For me at least, this TV tuner works.

Note my user name, "Q1User." A Q1 is a "UMPC" that dates back to around 2006. Mine is one of the original versions, no longer offered on Amazon. It has 1 GB of memory and a 1 Ghz processor.
I note this because this TV tuner works on my Q1. The takeaway here is that the computer is WELL below the specs recommended for the TV tuner. The TV tuner also works on a 4-5 year-old Gateway laptop with a 1.6 Ghz processor. A slight bit of "jerky" reception occurs every so often. This is to be expected for my underpowered test computers (I am actually surprised that the tuner does not tax the computers more).

Reading previous reviews, I was wary of this TV tuner. However, because it is priced on the low end of the spectrum for TV tuners, I decided to give it a try. I already have a Hauppage WinTV 950Q TV tuner working satisfactorily on my main computer, a modern Toshiba desktop replacement laptop.

I purchased this TV tuner on a lark, a whim. It has become one of my most pleasantly surprising Amazon purchases. It found ALL of the over-the-air and QAM channels that my primary tuner (the Hauppage WinTV 950Q) does. I watch a movie on one channel , a live football game on another, and a Spanish-language QAM broadcast on another.

Notes:
At least one previous reviewer here said their nonworking tuner did not have Sabrent branding on it. Mine does. The packaging also looks professional and "legit."

My tuner is not a small black "pendrive." My tuner is silver, and much larger than a usb flash drive. It is also larger than the more expensive and better-reviewed Hauppage WinTV 950Q that I own.

I initially could not install the Sabrent TV tuner. But, rather than just attribute the failure to my underpowered computer, I started over and followed the installation instructions to the letter. The instructions are quite simple, actually, and presented on a brief "leaflet." I now believe that is is POSSIBLE (not being accusatory) that SOME failures reported here may be due to the user not doing every step in the brief installation procedure *in the exact order* as stated on the installation leaflet.

Is this a glowing review? Am I saying everyone should order one immediately? No, quite frankly. The Sabrent TV tuner works me, but I will not totally discount the negative experiences of others. I may have just gotten lucky.

 "It does work" 2009-10-28
By D. L. Mitchell (Brooklyn NY)
It works, having a small screen or it can be maximize; i use it with cable and needed help scanning for a channel (to get to correct mode) and customer service was great; run channel, volume and all from cable box; its sensitive meaning it stalled and stop working when i plug it into the pc after it was booted-up needs to be plugged into port before boot-up had to restart pc to shut off its program; all in all good product for the price.

 "doesn’t work on visa" 2009-10-15
By Noel Selewa (La Grange Park, IL United States)
this product installs on vista, but media center doesn’t recognize it. It comes with some blaze software, but that just crashes. this product is a complete waste of time. it’s going back.

 "Never worked" 2009-10-10
By Antoni Edwin Walker
I installed everything correctly, and i never could find a signal for channels. I had to return the product and i got a complete refund. If you can get this working it is awesome for the price. I think its awesome if you could use a laptop with a high def screen to play high def tv. I suggest buying from a more reputable brand. Dont be cheap, you get what you pay for.
