Well, I waited two weeks after receiving the HT09 before reviewing it and suddenly my whole opinion changed. Initially, I was just like most of the other reviewers who found the set to be of unbelievable value. But, last night I decided to try and hook up a game console to one of the AVI ports. The game seemed to work fine.
But, after quiting the game and switching back to my HD Comcast hookup, I found that the colors were messed up. The Vivid, Standard and Movie modes were terrible(all had a green tint). I was able to adjust the colors some using the USER setting, but no matter how much I tried I could not get back the RED colors(all red colors now come out brown). I will be calling customer service on Monday and I will update my review after that.

Come on, seriously. Hasn’t anyone noticed that this TV has a 16:10 aspect ratio? All other HD sets are 16:9, and none of the cable or satellite companies broadcast in 16:10, nor does this set correct for the odd aspect ratio. I can’t believe that nobody has complained about the fact that this tv stretches all the pictures vertically, making all the people look slightly taller and skinnier. Maybe this doesn’t matter to those who have reviewed it previously, but it drove me freaking nuts!! Granted, it’s only slight, but it really really bugged me.
That being said, the clarity of the picture is great, the size and resolution are great for the price, but I could not get past the odd aspect ratio. I had to return the tv.

At first glance, this should be a great versatile unit. As a TV, it should play back full 1080p (16:9 aspect ratio). However, the widescreen display is less than optimal for use as a monitor, so the ability to display 1920 x 1200 (16:10 aspect ratio) should have made this perfect for double duty.
However, there’s a major issue in the design. A 16:9 signal on a 16:10 set should have black bars at top and bottom, but this set doesn’t automatically do that. It fills the screen unless there’s a key in the signal to force 16:9. Since the widescreen standard aspect ratio is 16:9, this means that an image will be vertically streched to 16:10 unless there’s a key in the signal to force 16:9. I quickly discovered that many 16:9 signals don’t have the key to control the display, and that I was forced to watch vertically distorted images, including those from the TV’s built-in tuner. The simple solution would have been for Hannspree to have included a 16:9 aspect ratio that would force the display to normal 16:9 widescreen, and all would have been well. Unfortunately, in what has to be one of the silliest design decisions I’ve heard of, they didn’t do it. After wrestling with this TV, and confirming with Hannspree customer service that there is no way for the TV to avoid vertically stretched displays unless it’s forced to do so by the incoming signal, this one is going back.
It seems like common sense that a TV that uses an non-standard aspect ratio would be able to display the current standard widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 for any signal, but common sense doesn’t apply. This set will force many 16:9 images into 16:10, causing vertical distortion of the picture. That’s just wrong.

This is a great TV and the price is incredible. 1080p, wall-mountable, great picture and good hookups. The sound quality is acceptable, but not bad for builtin speakers; you will want some kind of audio system if possible. Also, the remote is fairly worthless if you want to control anything more than the TV; it’s hardly universal.
Set turns on a little slow, but once on the HDMI inputs respond a little faster than many TVs. There is an audio input to use with the VGA port, and it’s great. We don’t have a DVR and rarely watch live TV, so we stream the shows from a macbook with no problems. The picture quality using the VGA port is extremely good.

We bought this TV because it was the largest we could find to fit into our entertainment center. Service from the seller was great, and we received it very quickly. The buttons on the remote are a little small and not alway as responsive as we like but it’s adequate. Sound volume seems to fluctuate between channels; I’m not sure if this is the TV or the individual stations. All in all, for the price, it was a great buy!
